The city will be making a change beginning in May and only picking up the blue curbside recycling containers twice a month. Beginning in May we will continue to receive service on our regular collection day, Monday, but recycling will only be picked up on the first and third weeks of each month. So in May, for our neighborhood, that's Monday, May 4th and 18th.
Since the 1990s, Rapid City has implemented water conservation measures yearly, but because of low water levels, the city is bumping up the start date for the first time since 2008.
Water conservation measures will begin Thursday, May 1, and extend until Sept. 30. This means no outdoor watering is allowed between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
Beginning May 1, the City will no longer collect yard waste placed in brown paper bags at the curb. A new seasonal yard waste subscription service will be available to residents beginning May 1. Yard waste collection will only be provided through the subscription-based container service. Containers will be delivered to those that sign up at the end of April.
